Win 2k Update - Need Administrator priviledges

Can't update Win 2k Pro critical patches. I have administrator priviledges but the microsoft site keeps telling me that I need administrative priviledges. Have gone to the support site who tells me to edit th
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer key and another similar key. However, both keys are lacking on my computer when looking for it using regedit. Anyone know what's happening with my computer which prevents me from connecting to the update site? Any help would be appreciated.
