I would like to reinstall Windows 2000 Professional and retain Registry
information and whatever is needed to give me seamless access to my
applications. Can that be done?

Specifically should I reeinstall to a new directory or should I over write
the syetem to the old directory - hopefully with all the initialization stuff
retained.

Reinstalling to a new directory leaves all my applications wondering where
their .dll files are!

Do an inplace upgrade

To perform an inplace upgrade, follow these steps: 1. Insert the Windows
2000 CD-ROM in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
2. In the CD Autorun dialog box, click Install Windows 2000.
3. In the Windows 2000 Setup dialog box, click Upgrade to Windows 2000
(Recommended), and then follow the directions to reinstall Windows 2000.

This is different from a repair install
