My friends computer has Win 2000 SP4 on his machine and will not boot up at
all. It comes up with an error message "NTLDR.dll not found" and tells me to
restart but of course the message is there again when that is done. Just
before i go into what ive tried already this has happened before. The first
time i reinstalled the OS, second time i used the windows recovery console
and found the boot sector was currupt and so typed "FIXBOOT" wrote a new
boot sector for the system drive and it worked. I assumed that was the
problem this time as well but its not as ive tried not only fixing the boot
sector but, also writing another master boot record, all in vain. I cannot
get far enough to boot into safe mode to see what the problem is and it
seems to be recurring. I did try the automatic repair process option from
the win 2000 cd but it cannot find a system to fix. Now i know the last time
i should have made a recovery disk but neglected to make a mental note of
that, silly me. What i want to know is why this problem is occuring and how
to fix it without reinstalling the OS which is looking the likely option
right now. I also tried activating the boot sector service from the enable
menu but it said that there was no registry entry for that service? My
friend didn't do anything unusual before this happened except restart his
computer, normally has to do it because his usb modem messes up and he has
to restart his computer to get back onto the internet. Any suggestions
please get back in touch and help me iam out of ideas!
