Win 2000 and DOS Window -- How to speed up?

S

Steven O.

I am running Windows 2000 on an Athlon AMD 1000 MHz machine. I still
have an old DOS application I like to use (PFS Professional Write, for
anyone who has ever heard of it). I don't want to run it full screen,
because then every time I switch to a Windows application, the monitor
has to switch modes, which takes time, and I'm not sure it's that good
for the monitor.

When I run the application in a Window, so that Win2K emulates the DOS
application, there is a slight but noticeable delay between when I
type on the keys, and when the text appears in the application window.
It's very short, probably like a quarter of a second, but just enough
to be distracting, and make me feel like my eyes and my hands are out
of synch.

Does anyone know any configuration trick to make the DOS emulation
happen faster, so that the text (and cursor) keep up with my typing?

Thanks!

Steve O.

have you tried the task manager and setting the priority to high?

Hi Steven - Have you tried running it with Compatibility Mode enabled?

Enable Compatibility Mode regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll

To disable:

Disable Compatibility Mode regsvr32 /u %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll
