Willowpond MediaRack is Freeware!

P

Pogo

Just discovered on Willowpond's website that their 16-bit
MediaRack is now freeware, but unsupported. Lemme tell
you about this small suite of executables.

The entire zipped package is a 417K download.

Read about it here: http://www.willowpond.com/willowpond/wp_software.shtml

Download it here:
http://www.acord-92.si/ftp/Mediaforte/soundcards/opti/mediarack.zip

It requires only expanding in a folder of your choice.
It doesn't write anything important to the registry.
It comes with:

A .MID file player.
A CDROM music player (as well as plays .MP3 files, singly or by the list)
An Volume/Equalizer unit.
A .WAV recorder (unlimited time), with choosable Bit-rates/Frequency
A Talking digital clock.

The REAL delightful discovery was ... the recorder will record "What You
Hear"
out of your speakers, and that includes streaming stuff from direct off the
net; or
play a favorite list of .MID files while recording at the same time to a
..WAV file.
You can use Nero or some other burner later to relegate your saves to a
normal
CDROM music disc.

This tiny, tiny suite of tools is only 16-bit programming, but it works. It
works.
At least on my Win ME and Win98se machines. Further .. it was freeware.
made available by Willowpond themselves.

<snip>
For the last three+ years

"MediaRack WillowMEDIA uses a rack stereo motif to give you total control
over your system's multimedia, and throws in multiple alarms and an
answering machine. You can have as many multimedia players as you want in
your stack of components. Each player can handle a wide range of formats,
including audio CDs; Photo CDs; .mp3, .wav, .avi, MIDI, and MPEG files; and
RealAudio. Other features include playlists, a powerful mixer, and a
talking clock answering machine, five alarms and you can only get it HERE.
:) Old Version.* I have the full version but nowhere to upload the 3.96Mb
file to."

Willowpond and it's site went *away* a few years back causing me to find an
alternate DL for the little 16bit set of players....The Newer
32bit version is *really kickass** but I have nowhere to upload the 4Mb
file to...
Cheers,

So what do you do during installation when it wants "Audio Disk 1?"

Apparently the files it needs are not in the zip file.

Both of the download links to zdnet.com on the WillowMedia page are dead.

I have a lot of faith in your recommendations. If you consider this app.
to be "kickass", I'd be happy to host the file. If you're interested,
send me an email. I'll set up a temp. sub-domain you could upload it to.
You can use my contact page @ Freeware4u.com

... and even the old version's URL is dead, so
ppl can't try out the smaller version before
going for the Cinemascope version :-((

PS Read the "SPCA saga" and was thoroughly disgusted with it ...

Obviously some other guys had had that issue, too. I found a download
link hosted by a fan of old andf recent windows freeware

http://home.comcast.net/~steelersfan42/pcfwebzone/download/mediarck.zip

But can't tell if this is the latest or simply the real version.

No, I downloaded the zip just fine. The problem is that during
installation, it demands "Audio Disk 1" and that's the end of that.

Then just try it, copy the contents of the zip file on a disk, and use
that for installation. The label "Audio Disk 1" is named in the
setup.inf

-excerpt-
;--------------------------------------------------------------------
[disks]
;The disk names that Setup uses to prompt the user to insert the next
disk.
; For example, "Please Insert Disk 2".
; The number at the left is the disk number; the text string at the
right
; is the name of that disk.
1=Audio Disk #1

;--------------------------------------------------------------------
-excerpt-

Obviously the program was created before the installation from CDroms
became usual.

The audio disk should contain

a:\RACK\CDPLYR.EXZ
a:\RACK\CDPLYR.HLZ
a:\RACK\MEDIARCK.EXZ
a:\RACK\MEDIARCK.HLZ
a:\RACK\MIDIPLYR.EXZ
a:\RACK\MIDIPLYR.HLZ
a:\RACK\MRCLOCK.EXZ
a:\RACK\MRCLOCK.HLZ
a:\RACK\SYSMIXER.EXZ
a:\RACK\SYSMIXER.HLZ
a:\RACK\WAVEPLYR.EXZ
a:\RACK\WAVEPLYR.HLZ
a:\RACK
a:\CTL3D.DLZ
a:\IMAADPCM.ACZ
a:\MCICDA.DRZ
a:\MSACM.DLZ
a:\MSACM.DRZ
a:\MSADPCM.ACZ
a:\MSMIXMGR.DLZ
a:\SETUP.EXE
a:\SETUP.INF
a:\TECHSUPT.TXZ
a:\WILLOWPD.HLZ
a:\WPCTRL.DLZ

Actually, if you use the link that Son Of Spy posted above, you'll get an
installable package.

For what? A clock, a wave player that doesn't play mp3s. a midi player and
a volume control.

Sorry, but there just wasn't anything here that I don't have covered
elsewhere. I did like the interface, though.

I installed the entire WillowMEDIA 32 bit package and just pushing the
"record" button sends me to an unrecoverable blue screen of death. Oh well.

The 32bit version is NOT called "MediaRack".

I have made it available to Burnr.

Patience please.

This is getting confusing as I have WillowPond MediaRack
on a CD somewhere, though it could take a while to find.
Programs so far from links and all different versions;
mediarack.zip 479KB version 2.10.000
wpa.zip 679KB Version 2.10.023
5061395.exe 47KB A packed file
(Release 1-30-007, 15 October 1996)
wm_trial.exe 4,039KB Version unknown but a later version
(last one from freeserve.com DL page see below) but it is trialware, but
does have additional features to my version if I could find it.
Though there is at least two similar versions
1. WillowRack,
2. WillowMedia.
http://5star.freeserve.com/Music/MultimediaPlayers/willowmedia.html
"This is a trial version" not free.

From OP of thread I note DL link is broken and no trace on ZDnet apart
from search on "Willow" brings up the likes of;

Copyright © 1997-2003 by Willow Software.
Anvil Studio is a Trademark of Willow Software
and a few others.

So interested in this version if it is Freeware.
