Will XP Work With Dual Processor Systems?

I'm in the process of putting together a shopping list
for an AMD-based dual processor Athlon MP system. I want
to know, before I go ahead with my purchasing, if Windows
XP will recognise both processors and use them.

Furthermore, if the differences regarding this dual-CPU
process between XP Home and XP Pro can be explained,
better than "XP Pro is just better" (i.e. I'd like the
reasons why, if any), I would greatly appreciate it.

It's not that XP Pro is 'better' than XP Home when it comes to dual
processors.

The simple fact is that, of the two, *only* XP Pro supports 2 physically
separate processors.

XP Home does, however, support hyper-threading - hence the references you
may find to it supporting 2 logical processors - but this is not the same as
supporting the physically separate processors you need in the dual processor
system you wish to build.

(BTW, XP Pro also supports hyper-threading and, if you follow the logic,
therefore can support 4 logical processors.)

Hope that helps
Pete
