Dear All,
I have an HP Omnibook XE3 laptop that is two years old, runs on Win
98SE. Processor is a Celeron at 600 MHz with 128 Mb RAM. If I upgrade to
XP Pro, will it run OK on this machine?
Regards

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't. It runs ok on my 5yr old Compaq
with 300Mhz Celeron with 128Mb.

You should at least double the ram on the machine. If the graphics card
shares memory with main system memory as opposed to the card having it's own
memory, I think you'll be disappointed as XP is a graphics intensive system.

"Will it run OK" is highly subjective. I have it running on a PII-233 with
an ATI graphics card with 32MB of RAM and system memory of 128MB. It runs
ok but it's not my primary setup. I also ran it with an ATI card with 4MB
of its own ram, again, it ran OK but it's not my primary setup.

I don't know your reasons for wanting to make the change but I can tell you
XP will run substantially slower on your setup than 98SE.

Greetings --

It'll be quite slow, even if you double the amount of RAM.

128MB is not enough for sensible performance, and a 600MHz CPU is on the
low side. Laptop RAM upgrades are not that cheap - I think you would be
better to stay with Win98

Microsoft has an Upgrade Advidor that you can download and should run. it
will check your Hardware and Software and advose of any potential problems.
