I want to use my laptop at work but my IT guy is telling me that Windows XP
home will not work on a network. I know it will work on a home network but
will it work on a network where there is a server that I would have to log
into?

You cannot join a Windows XP Home computer to a domain, like you can a Windows
XP Pro, or Windows 2000, computer. You can only use workgroup authentication
with a Windows XP Home computer. This requires you to create a local account on
any server.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

XP Home Edition can't join a domain or log into a domain. It can
connect to a domain and access domain resources. For details, please

"Hi,
Yes, there are some issues with Xp home and the server network. Here we
"fought" it for awhile, but then put the xp pro on our notebooks and all and
there have been no issues since. It's the only way to go.
