Will Roxio Go Back recover a failed SP2 installation?

There have been so many reported failures in installing SP2 and many people
who have experienced problems after uninstalling SP2 using system restore
and the recovery console that I wondered if any members of this NG had used
Go Back to recover after such events.

In theory it should recover completely to an earlier time and condition but
does it?

I would appreciate advice since I am holding off installing SP2 until the
reported problems are resolved.

Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).

Roxio (now Symantec) themselves tell you to disable GoBack prior to doing
anything really intensive, such as installing a service pack. Then turn it
back on.

I did not expect that answer so thank you for pointing it out. I could have
been in even more trouble.

This is an excert from a Fred Langa newsletter. He is talking about SP2.

But if you absolutely must try it as soon as you can, MAKE A FULL IMAGE
BACKUP OF YOUR SYSTEM! (There, I hope that got your attention! <g>) You can
use a free trial version of BootIt for example (
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/ ), and have a bulletproof way to roll your
system back to pre-SP2 condition if things don't work out. Note that standard
uninstall, backup or roll-back tools (like Go Back) may NOT suffice for an
update of this size and scope. If you want to be 100% sure you can undo SP2
in its totality, you *must* use a heavy-duty imaging tool

Scary isn't it.

I would not rely on Goback as when I used it, it would stop monitoring when
there was a big amount of disk activity.

When I upgraded from WIN98SE to WINXP, the install disk detected Go
Back, and insisted that I uninstall Go Back. Just disabling it would
not do. I would GUESS that the SP2 will do the same. You can
reinstall it later.
