Will Outlook 2007 work with Windows 7?

From the start of marrying up Office 2007 with Windows Vista, Outlook hasn't
worked properly - the Calendar crashing regularly but unpredictably - varying
from 1-8 openings to get it to open and stay open.

After 2 months of trying various 'solutions' that didn't work, a Microsoft
techie in the UK told me it was an incompatibility problem with Vista and
that I would have to strip Vista off and reload it. Since I didn't have 4
days to rebuild my PC at that point in time, I decided to persevere with
Outlook the way it was. Troubled existence but about manageable. I thought
the techie would make sure the issue would get taken care of in Vista SP 2 -
he told me I was far from being the only person with this problem. Now, I've
loaded Vista SP 2, in addition to the Calendar problems, Outlook crashes
half-way through mails, costing me huge amounts of wasted time. And can I get
the UK Microsoft techies to respond...? Can I hell!! Gee, I hate
Microsoft!!!!!

It was the potential fusion of Business Contact Manager and Accounting that
led me to dump ACT when Quicken ceased. Now I really wish I'd stayed away
from Microsoft!!!

So does anyone know if the problem - made worse with Vista SP 2 - will be
resolved with Windows 7? (Jeez, when Microsoft can't even get capatibility
with their own products...!!!!!!!)

Office 2007, together with BCM and MOA works without problems here
The response from Tech sound rather odd
What happens when you run Outlook using the safe switch?
Presumably Office Diagnostics has been run, & you've also created a new
Profile?

Hi, DL...and thanks for your response!

Done the new profile several times. Also run Outlook in safe mode at least
once.

A big part of the issue is that the problem can be intense - ie: repeatedly
for 7-8 openings of Outlook. (Can't ever recall it going beyond 8!) Or it can
not occur for several openings of Outlook. It actually took me 2-3
conversations with Microsoft UK - and them remotely manipulating my PC - to
convince the techies I had a problem on my machine. (Only much later did the
main one concede it was an acknowledged compatability problem between Vista
and Outlook.)

If it got repeatedly intense, it seemed to me that a run of Office
Diagnostics would calm it for a while - though the chief techie did't seem to
give any credit to that. Since installing Vista SP 2, I've run Office
Diagnostics a couple of times - the very next opening of Outlook, either the
Calendar goes as soon as I try to work in it or Mail goes - usually while I'm
working on something (ggrrrr!!!) - though sometimes it crashes while I've got
Outlook open but working in another programme (Microsoft or non-Microsoft).

Thanks again for your interest!

Best

Keith

Office/Outlook 2007 works flawlessly with Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista.
Windows 7 is not a supported platform for any version of Office or any other
software program until RTM.

Sounds more like a third party software problem to me. Do you have any
add-ins that integrate with Outlook, like a PDA/Smartphone, Vista Outlook
Gadget, AV integrated, etc.?

What do you have hooked up into Outlook? I am running Outlook 2007 on
the Windows 7 RC (build 7100) and have it synching with my phone. I
have it using 5 different addresses to get and send mail from. I have a
contact screen of several pages, with pictures and copious notes on
businesses, individuals, and groups. I have a Calendar full of
recurring events, individual items, and project plan pieces that have
attatchments on the Calendar item (not my idea, they were mailed to me
as requests that way). I will have to say it is under pretty heavy
usage. On top of that I have GPG-OL plugins (for encryption of
sensitive documents/email), iTunes plugin (for synching my
calendar/contacts to my iPod for testing and backup purposes), and my
AV scanner plugins. So far it runs rather stable and I have not had any
issues. Granted, I am not hooked up to Exchange (only IMAP, SMTP, and
HTTP transfer) or another MAPI compliant server store (Scalix, Zimbra,
etc). So depending on how your setup is done, it may have a different
operating environment and structure. At a previous business, we were
using Scalix, and there were lots of Outlook plugins that would cause
havoc with the MAPI calendar polling, causing crashes. This even
occurred over to Exchange as well. Different environments will have
different issues.
The "Too Long; Didn't Read" summary:
It works fine with tons of extra plugins even for me on Windows 7
(and on Vista too)
What is your set up environment like? We may get more clues
towards the problem from there.
Can you provide a crash log from when it dies on the repeated
openings of the Calendar?

Dear Milly Staples,

Do you mean that Windows 7 RTM will support Office 2007?
Thanks in advance!

Do you mean that Windows 7 RTM will support Office 2007?

Outlook 2007 should work fine on WIndows 7 once it's release. It seems to
work fine on the Release Candidate.
