will not connect

On another pc I can download updates to anti-virus etc but when I open
internet explorer I get page not found and can not load hotmail or any other
site. PC communicating with modem and my service provider says modem
communicating with them. Any advice please.

Many thanks for your help. Before trying your solution it occured to me to
try 'system restore', I went back 2 weeks. Although I will never know what
the problem was it now works.
