Will a Repair Install enable P4 Hyperthreading?

Joe

I just replaced my PIII motherboard with a new P4 motherboard and a P4C
processor (that both support Intel's Hyperthreading technology).
I'm almost ready to follow the Method 2 instructions in the MSKB Article
Q315341:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q315341&ID=KB;EN-US;Q315341

Will a this type of Repair Installation be sufficient to now enable P4
Hyperthreading? Or, do I have to go through all the drudgery of a total
clean reinstall to enable Hyperthreading?

I'm using the retail version of Windows XP Pro (installed in May of 2003).

Thanks .... Joe

It worked for me.

I'm surprised that you haven't had to do a repair installation already to
transfer the XP installation from a PIII to a P4 system. I'd expect the
drivers to be different.

Make sure that HT is turned on in the system BIOS before proceeding with the
repair installation.

You will lose everything installed through Windows Update, but you ought to
retain most other files and settings.

Good luck.
