Wild tangent and also slow start up.

First question I somehow got something called Wild tangent installed on my
computer and whenever I tried to uninstall the program it would abort the
uninstall. Eventually I found the folder on my hard drive and deleted the
folder. However, now I get a pop up every time I start my computer stating
can't find folder C:\stuff\Wildtangent\morestuff. How can I get rid of this
pop up and is wild tangent really gone? Also what the heck is wild tangent
anyway?

I have several programs on my computer that start when I turn my computer
on. Some are fine like my antivirus and firewall, but several others I think
simply slow it down like SATA Raid, not sure what this one does, Steam, an
online game I play sometimes, and a program for photographs and scanning for
my Hp printer, this one can not be uninstalled since my printer won't work
without it. It can be turned off though, which I always do. The question is
how do I stop them from automatically loading when I turn my pc on?

Thanks,

William

Open Internet Options, General tab, Settings button, View Objects
button. If Wild Tangent is listed there, remove it.

To prevent automatic installs without your permission:

Open Internet Options, Advanced tab, deselect "Enable Install on Demand
(Internet Explorer)" and "Enable Install on Demand (other)".

Wild Tangent may also be listed in Add/Remove Programs.

In the registry, look for references to "C:\stuff\Wildtangent\morestuff"
and/or "Wild Tangent". Press the Home key, then F3. Enter "tangent" in
the search pane, press Enter. Delete any reference to it; press F3 to
continue the search. I had you search for "tangent" because there
might/might not be a space between the words. Look at what you're
deleting before removing it.

Google is a good tool. See some of these links in this google search for
Wild Tangent. Removing it requires much more than just deleting the program
folder. There are registry entries too. See the second link in the google
search for manual removal instructions.

You should scan your system for malware, much is not caught by an anti-virus
program. Here are some links with tips for how to do that.

For unwanted startup programs, first step should be to check in the options
for the program you don't want to start and see if there is a setting to
tell it not to run at startup. The next step is to remove any entries you
don't want from the two startup folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

For anything else uncheck their entries in the startup tab of msconfig:
Start | Run | Msconfig | Ok

Another option is to remove the reference to them from one of these keys in
the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Make sure you have a backup of the registry using a program like ERUNT
before making any changes to the registry.
