A lawyer friend of mine inherited a used Gateway laptop from another office,
and upgraded from Office 97 to Office Professional 2000 (which is the
software he owns. Last week he got cable broadband and wanted to set security
a little better, so the main thing I did was to set a user password and make
his files private.
Now when he tries to open a document he gets only a partial listing of of
the My Documents folder. The complete document listing is there if I open the
folder fromt he XP shell, and I can click on the document and it opens
properly in Word and is actually placed ont he history list, but going to
File>Open only shows a partial lsiting of the documents in the directory.
I tried re-setting the folder path a couple of times, and that didn't work.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2000 and that didn't work.
I even tried uninstalling the office using the removal tool fromt he XP
resource package, and that didn't work. In fact, I still had to edit the
registry to chnage the company office name and user registration, so I guess
that tool didn't work too well.
Has anybody seen a problem like this? I'm considering trying to undo the
"make files and documents private" if I can figure out how, and see if that
fixes the problem.
Thank you for any help,
Mike
