Wierd Monitor Brightness

I have bought two new 19" Philips monitors. Both are exact same model -
109B40/00. Both are connected to a single GeForceFX 5600 GPU.

I've been using one of the monitors for a week now and I have since realised
that there is a difference in the level of "brightness" between the two
monitors. The difference is easily spotted, so that when I asked other
people to tell me if there was any difference in a few colours on each
monitor in PSP8, they said yes.

Is this normal? Shouldn't they both show the exact same quality of colours?
ie. Should I phone up Philips and ask them to get me another replacement
monitor because of this? Will they accept?

BTW, I've reset the monitor settings on each monitor to factory default and
tried chaging the brightness AND contrast settings for hours, but no luck.
Still the monitor's brightness is alot.

TIA!

Yes, I've tried them plugged into different connections on the GPU, and
tested each one seperately conected to same GPU and tested it on a different
PC with different GPU, etc. etc.

The monitor im having problems with is actually a replacement monitor
because the old one died after 2 hours of using it!

Anyway, I don't want to go back to the original vendor (www.ebuyer.co.uk)
because they won't do anything. They give me a Philips sales helpline to
call.

If I call Philips for another replacement and tell him/her that its a
problem with brightness, no doubt he/she gonna read the manual on how to
change brightness/contrast, grrrr.

BTW, If you want to understand what I'm seeing, this is the difference in
colour using HTML colour code thingy:
#6A9ECE
#3A6EA5

Try running a program such as Adode Gamma- it will help set contrast levels,
white point, etc. and see if it makes a difference. After setting each
monitor, you can save the color profile and use it as the default.

No they won't. It is impossible to get two monitors to exactly the same
levels without manual adjustment of the controls. Due to tolerances in
electronics components which can be as high as 20%, and which also
alter with heat, you can set a thousand monitors up identically and get
a thousand different looking pictures.

Dac output levels are set via a rset resistor. If the value isn't set
correctly.... Contact Nvidia.

I'd take the pair physically to Philips (don't bother with a call for an RMA
or whatever: you'll get one pronto when they see this shit,) and *demand*
that they replace the one you don't like with one that matches the other
one.

I just called Philips and a new replacement monitor will be delivered within
48 hours :)

He only understood that it must be replaced after I told him I work with
Adobe Photoshop alot and that it affects my work alot. All bullshit but it
seemed to work :)

But seriously, if you sit in front of your monitors for 12+ hours per day
every day, it is annoying! But i'll never go back to a single 19" monitor!

Thanks Michael, bye :)

I had a serious runaround with phillips on a DVD player, actually had to
send it back 4 times before they finally agreed to refund our money, first
one skipped badly about 45minutes into a movie, sent it in, got one back
that skipped badly immediatly, sent it back got one back that arrived
shattered and in pieces, sent it back and got one back that started skipping
about 30 minutes into the movie and would change to other audio tracks
whenever it felt like it.... they finally sent a refund check and we got a
sony, first time plugged in it worked great, no problems since. I for one
would be reluctant to purchase anything with the Phillips lable on it, sure
it is probably a great piece of hardware, but a royal pain if it needs work.
Good luck with your monitor. Did you try any software side utilities to
adjust brightness/contrast/gamma on the monitors? could be able to better
match your picture by playing with the output signal instead of knobs on the
monitor......
