Wierd hard drive : AVFS ?

C

Chris James

I bought a Humax PVR 8000 T .
It receives TV and has a recording hard drive .
The HD attaches by a standard IDE cable etc .
I want to swap the drive in and out of my computer .
BUT !
When I did so , the drive was seen fine by the BIOS , but not by XP .
Partition program told me that the drive is formatted as AVFS .
AudioVisual File System ??
There is one small partition and one very big one : I guess Humax have
their OS on the small partition .
The recorded files must be on the big partition .
On the front of the Humax it says MPeg2 digital .

Does anybody know , how can I get at these Mpeg2 files ?

A second question would be , can I make an exact copy of this ' weird '
drive . That would at least give me a few more of them for storage .

Thanks
Chris

Normally XP recognizes only 2 file systems FAT and NTFS. Also it has
built-in support for CD ROM file systems like Joliet and ISO 9660 as
well. However, I am not sure whether it supports AVFS. (plus AVFS has
different versions...not sure what you have)

If your disk was getting recognized by XP before it crashed, then the
file system must have been FAT or NTFS and thus a recovery of the data
on the disk is definitely possible.

Consult a good data recovery company. One of them that comes to my mind
is Stellar Information Systems. They have experience in recovering data
from lots of different media and could be of help to you.
