wide toolbar quick launch problem

Until yesterday I had a narrow toolbar with quick launch in it. Now
when I try to add quick launch to the toolbar I wind up with a wide
toolbar whether or not the toolbar is locked before I add quick launch
to my normal sized toolbar. Can someone please tell me how I can get
back my narrow toolbar with quick launch in it?

Are the icons in the Quick Launch bar bigger than they were before? If so,
unlock the taskbar and:

- right-click on the left edge of the Quick Launch bar
- go to View \ Small Icons

The icons are all the same size - I gave up and deleted c drive and
replaced it with my backup on d drive which is fairly recent and all
is well again. I think partition magic is my favorite utility!
