Why WinXP Quick Launch keeps disappearing

What is the cause of my WinXP Quick Launch toolbar always disappearing?

In Windows XP, whenever the system closes down abnormally, I lose my Quick
Launch bar. Sure, it's easy to get back, but, it takes five or six steps to
get it right, position it, make the icons small, lock it, etc.

I have to do this at least once a week as Windows XP crashes at least that
often causing the QuickLaunch toolbar to dissappear.

My question isn't how to resolve this problem of the quick launch toolbar
disappearing but my question is about WHY the WinXP Qquick Launch goes away
after a Windows crash.

Does anyone know WHY WinXP Quick Launch is so vulnerable to a Windows
crash? Why does the Quick Launch bar get unselected after a WinXP crash?
WHy does it constantly dissapear?

Thanks for listening, as always.

Any "Abnormal Stop" of Explorer isn't a good thing. I wouldn't
expect the QL bar to be retained while Explorer is faulting. It's
possible a 3rd-Party application has "Hooked" into Explorer &
one of the extensions is causing Explorer to crash. Things like
CD Burning, Anti-Virus and other apps extend the shell options
to give you Right Click options like "Scan for Viruses, Burn DVD"

You can use the following program to view your Shell Extension:

I would wonder why XP is crashing once a week.

Exactly. That's highly unusual, and as far as I'm concerned, that's
the real issue that Dana should be concerned with.
