Wide screen not maintained

Running XP Pro with Movie Maker 2.1.4026

Downloaded wide-screen HD clips.

Opened movie maker and dragged and dropped clips to the storyboard.

Went to tasks > Finish movie > save to my computer and named movie and best
quality and next.

Took a while but the end result was not in wide-screen nor HD.

So, I'm guessing movie maker is incapable of being used for these formats.

Anyone know of another program that will allow me to join/merge wide-screen
HD clips/movies?

Thanks.
