Why would this happen with Dates

M

Michael Kintner

A strange thing happened when I enter a date into a cell. If I enter
6/1/2007 the date displays 1/0/1900 but inside the cell it shows =6/1/2007.
If I try to remove the = from the cell it then put the = back.

Any ideas as how to why this is happening?

Thank you in advance,
Michael Kintenr

6/1/2007 the date displays 1/0/1900

By prefixing the date with a equals sign XL is taking your entry as the
formula 6 divided by 1 divided by 2007 which is 0.00299 which is 4 minutes
and 18 seconds in the the first XL day.

Entry the date without the equals sign.

uncheck those Lotus 123 settings.

(excel figures you want 6 divided by 1 divided by 2007 (a small number that
represents 12:04:18 AM on 1/1/1900.)
