Why won't my Canon waste ink error reset ?

Hi

I own a Canon S630.
I was getting 8 orange flashing lights. I went on the Canon website
and it indicated a "Waste tank error" message.
I googled and found a site telling me what to do. I had to get the ink
pad out, clean it, dry it and put it back, then reset the printer.
I did all that with success it seems, I started printing stuff. Then 2
days later my printer was blinking 7 or 8 times one morning. I reset
it several times using different combinations, unplugged it but I
can't get it to work.
I am hoping for a final tip before to trash it. I am suspecting a
dirty/dead printer head maybe?
It is out of the question to buy a new one, they cost $40. How do I
try to clean it, that should be my last attempt at salvaging the
printer.

Thanks a lot

Patrick

What to do is simple. The printer has reached the end of its economic
life as designed. Look at the new models.

Are you getting 7 orange blinks or 8. & is a defective printhead, 8 is waste
counter full?

If it is 8 flashes are you using the following reset method -
Start with the printer OFF
1. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER
2. release RESUME
3. press RESUME twice, then release POWER
4. Let green light blink until printer has finished initialising
5. Press RESUME 4 times
6. Press POWER, if necessary press POWER again to turn printer off

There is a procedure around that is similar to this but which at step 5 says
press RESUME 3 times.
Hopefully one of them will work for you. The first has worked for me every time
I have needed it.

If you are getting 7 flashes a new printhead is the only fix.

BTW any suggestion that a full waste pad is the designed end of life for a
printer is simply wrong, or someone is deliberately trying to do damage!

Thanks for the kind help. The instructions you gave me are the same I
had from the Neil site but I did it again following your steps twice.

The first time I left the printer head in it, upon finishing and
turning it back on it gave me 8 oranges right away.

Here is the twist. The second time prior to start I removed the head
and upon restart a solid green light, so I placed the head back in the
printer and now I am getting 7 oranges.
If you are getting 7 flashes a new printhead is the only fix.

As you write above, it looks like my printer's head has died. I wonder
if a used one can be found on the cheap, a new one cost $40, not worth
it.

Well Tony I think some people just can't be bothered with fixing
stuff. I can afford a new printer but if I can save $100 that's ok
too.
A while ago my car had a service light on the dashboard that wouldn't
go away. I asked 4 or 5 guys what to do, they all said you got to
bring it in the shop. Then I finaly asked one more co-worker, the
handy type fix everything kind of guy.
He told me, unplug the battery for 2 hours, plug back in and see if
light is still on dashboard, if yes go to a shop, if not you are done.
I did it and the light was gone never to come back, he saved me some
dough.

Thanks for the help and if someone has a used head for a Canon S630
email me at vaindiouxatyahoodotcom.

I don't want to be negative but used printheads are almost never worth buying
unless the seller fully warrants the part. The problem is that once the
printhead has had ink in it, it needs to have ink flowing through it on a
regular basis to prevent clogging, if you can get one from a fully working
printer that someone is replacing then that would be OK.
Good luck and I totally agree that casual discard of technology without fully
looking at the options is poor practice, there is more than enough junk on our
planet already.

Ever listen to "Car Talk" on public radio? They laughingly tell you to
"fix" the light on the dash by applying a piece of electrician's tape over
it!

It looks like this one is a goner. It's ok win some lose some, at
least I tried. I learned a lot in the process.

Burt

That's funny about the radio car talk. There are tons of easy little
fixes for anything if one takes the time to look into them.

Thanks guys

Although I am not very knowledgeable about Canon printers, but it is
rare that inkjet printer throw error codes from head clogs. It is
usually something else. Is it possible you didn't complete the process
that resets the chip that counts the amount of ink in the waste pads?
