why will my LG DVD writer not read or write?

I run XP Pro SP3 and have a SATA LG DVD writer which although recognised in
device manager will not read or write anything. Model is

HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H62N

It was working fine before I changed my motherboard. I have reinstalled
adaptec ASPI. When I run Nero Infotool 5 it reports that all is well with
the drive.

What can I do to fix this?

When you 'changed your motherboard' - did you also do a repair installation
on Windows XP and update all the hardware drivers installed as well?

Shenan,

No I did not do an XP repair as Windows reports that it cannot find a
better driver than the MS ones

cdrom.sys
imapi.sys
redbook.sys
storprop.dll
5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2108

Come to think about it the previous identical MB only had sp2 and I
installed sp3 only after changing the MB. I wonder if this is where the
problem lies?

One thread I have read is where someone with the same DVDRAM unit has
somehow had it recognised as a raid drive and perhaps I have the same
problem as I am running raid 1. However I cannot see that the DVDRAM is
set to a raid controller in the bios or device manager.

You should always get the drivers from the manufacturer.

Jim,

I agree but I cannot find any drivers for this drive on the LG Germany site
which is the only site which I think holds drivers.

My SATA drive is on IDE channel 5 but I'm no knowledgable enough to
understand how this relates to SATA port 4.
