Why on Xcell I put in a figure hit enter and it reads out ###

When I put in a figure in an Xcel spreadsheet and hit enter
it shows #####
What happened and how do I fix it?
 
Hi,

Suppose your cell is A1 put your cursor on the line between the column
letters A and B and when the cursor becomes a two-headed arrow double-click
or drag to to the right .
