As the subject line says : Why OH! Why can't I play DVD's in Windows Media
Player for Vista anymore??

This is what I have installed as for the Windows Media Player for Vista.

Look at ALL the listed under "MPEG/DVD Filters" I have. So why in the hell
I can't play simple retail movie DVD's anymore.

Install Codec Packs. Google for CCCP, AC3filter, KLite and Vista Codec
Pack. Any one of them should solve this issue.

The Windows MCE 2005 Operating System on the same computer plays DVD's fine
in Media player,(Dual booted) with Microsoft Vista Home Premium 32-Bit OS,
which the DVD's DO NOT play in vista media player.

And Yes, My Dell Notebook with Vista Basic does play the DVD fine in vista
media player.

The answer you gave cited other OPERATING SYSTEMS that can play your DVD.
That's not what I asked.

Can your other PLAYERS - ON THE SAME OPERATING S-Y-S-T-E-M - play the DVDs?

And, just to be clear, you DID install the suggested codec packs on the same
operating system that you are having trouble playing the DVDs on - right?

on the other installed stand alone players; such as, Cyberlink PowerDVD 7
and Sonic CinePlayer.

But, I can NOT play DVD's in the Vista Media Player. Which I really want to
use.


Also, You have to understand, over two weeks ago I had no problems playing
tons of DVD movies in the Vista Media Player. I did not install or change
anything that would interfere with the vista media player.

Yes!! I Tried many suggested codec packs. They did not work or fix the
problem.

The only media I can play in the Vista Media Player is:

"VCD" CD's, "MPEG" CD or files, "AVI" CD or files, "MP3" CD or files, "MIDI"
files, "DIVX" files.

I just can not play simple retail DVD movies in the Vista Media Player.

So we know there is no physical problem with the DVD or the player.
But, I can NOT play DVD's in the Vista Media Player. Which I really want

There is obviously a difference in this DVD and the others that you were
playing successfully. Could the DVD have a different country code?

Are any error messages shown when you try and play the DVD?

Do you hear the sounds and see no picture?

Have you tried using System Restore to go back to 2 weeks ago on your PC and
see if the DVD will play?

Oooookay... i'm not even sure how to post a question here. i need to know
where I can get a FREE DVD decoder... i just got my laptop replaced-i bought
an acer with a RAM installed badly and it caused the screen to go blank
whenever it liked. Now that I got it replaced... the laptop is pretty much
empty....so to speak. I like watching a movie before i go to bed, thats why I
am desparately looking for this DVD Decoder.

Please help & Thank you

Not Me

If the PC came with a DVD drive, it should have DVD software installed.
Usually WMP will play DVDs.
I would check the manufacturer's website to see if there is a download.
There are other DVD decoders available, but I don't have links
handy...Google is your friend...
