24 hrs ago I posted a problem/question and I have had no response.
Could someone please give me opinion on why no response? What did I do
wrong? Any suggestions on how better to post questions would be
appreciated.

This is a copy of the post.

After loading XP Pro my CD drive or D drive is not listed under
explorer until I manually go to device manager , select "IDE ATA/ATAPI
CONTROLLERS" and then under action select "scan for hardware changes".
The first time I do this nothing changes. When I do it the second time
my D drive is suddenly listed correctly. The D drive had been working
correctly. I made a few changes by adding some software. This is my
first post to this group. I tried searching but haven't found the
answer. Thanks.

Also: I am using a Sony DVD RW DRU-500A version 2.1a as my D drive.
It is connected to my Primary IDE Master. I have 5 harddrives in this
computer. I have a P4P800-E motherboard

Click Start, Run, (Type) Diskmgmt.Msc [Enter]
Once open, maximize the Window. Locate your Optical drive, Right
Click the heading at the Left Edge border that reads "CD-ROM 0"
and take the context option "Change Drive Letter & Paths". Toggle
the Optical drives letter to something outside the range of your Disk
Drives, such as M,N or similar.

You did a get a response to your other post and another post to this one
so I'm not going to address the technical question. As to why it may
have taken some time to get responses, this is a peer-to-peer public
newsgroup hosted on Microsoft servers. While some MS employees
occasionally post in the groups, the majority of posters are volunteers
who do not work for the company.

Posters live all over the world in different time zones and some of us
even have Real Lives(tm) outside of the groups. In many parts of the
world, this is the end of the Christmas season and tonight is New
Year's Eve. That means that many people who might normally be around
reading the newsgroups are with family, friends, or just plain busy.

I see that you are posting using Google Groups. For a better Usenet
experience, try a real newsreader. Here is some information about that:
