Why No "ARCHIVE PROJECT" Option?

Doesn't appear to exist, but I really wish Moviemaker had an "ARCHIVE
"PROJECT" command.

Let's say I'm creating a short video for whatever purpose. I may use
some still pictures from "my pictures", a few clips from "my videos",
and maybe some background music from an MP3 or two in an external hard
drive.

Oops, now I realize I'm not going to finish before leaving on vacation,
so I'd like to just make a copy of all these files and use my Dad's
computer next week to put the final touches on my project. So I make
copies of all the source material and my saved project, but now all the
links are broken because the source material paths have changed.

Any decent software would have an "ARCHIVE PROJECT" command where I
could tell it to put everything on a DVD with updated links in the
Moviemaker project.

What are you guys doing for workarounds to this?

I haven't done this, but based on what I've read, you could start by moving
all of your clips and pictures to one folder(ie C:\MyMMFiles) before you
start. Then if you move to another computer, if you place that folder in the
same EXACT spot (C:\MyMMFiles) on DAD's computer, the project should open and
recoginze the location of all the files. If it doesn't, you made get Red X's
in your collections, then you browse for one of the files to give it its
location, and MM should find the rest of them.

Agilent's design software includes an "archive project" function, and
it's very handy. In particular, when you're trying to forward a design
to someone you're coaching/tutoring, they can just open the main file
from your cd and everything is right in place, instead of a dozen
broken links.

I'm not sure what your point is, perhaps that makes two of us.

One is a general statement, the other is a specific example to
illustrate that such a feature is useful.

I am not disputing that it would be useful, in fact I agree that it would
be.
Your original post, however, made it sound like this was a big miss by
Microsoft even though it is something you apparently have only seen in one
other piece of (paid for) software.
That's what my point is.
