why my 9600 256mb is so slow?

hi to all

i bought a 3d prophet 9600 256 mb ram..previously i had a asusv7700 with a
GeForce2 GTS and 32mb of ram.
with a simple benchmark with a group of rotating cubes (no textures on them
only colours) my fps have dropped from 80 to 40...sigh..

I have read about irq sharing problems..is this my case? It seems impossible
that after 2 years of graphic board evolutions my brand new card is slower
than the order one.

I already have new drivers...

Doesn't sound like many fps for a simple rotating cube.

You could of course use a more appropriate benchmarking tool.

I doubt that your new card is slower than your old one.

This usually caused by remnants from old drivers. Could be motherboard AGP
chipset driver too. Do you have latest BIOS for motherboard? Look for advice
and driver removal tools at http://rage3d.com in forums.

About to replace my Radeon 8500 with a 9600. Can I leave the Catalyst
drivers or should I start over? Running 2k and XP.

I would suggest a clean driver install if nothing else but to not invite
problems. It's not that hard and is always better when changing cards.

I just went from a GF2 to a 9600 PRO, and it is about 2x as fast in
almost everything I tried, with all the eye candy turned up.
You need to uninstall all nvidia drivers, change adapter to SVGA, then
finally install new drivers. You need to reboot machine at least 3
times. No shorcuts.

Hi GI,
Sounds as though your benchmark is old and incapable of dealing with all the
features of the new card. Either use a current benchmark, use FRAPS to
check frame rates in your games, or stop benchmarking and enjoy the games

What about the rest of your hardware? A GF2 GTS isn't 1/4th the card
of a Ti4200 which is about 50~100% slower than the 9600. Note, a
9600-PRO will smoke a 9600-256.

But if your CPU/system is a P3-700mhz system, then that is your
problem. What DO you have?

I tried to run the 3dmark99 benchmark on my 9500 Pro, it can't run
since it can't find DirectX 6.1

I guess the benchmark just doesn't wants to work :p
