WHY Microsoft calls this BETA

M

marty

OK. Giant did release the full version. But in less than
a week, this program has been installed on 100 times more
machines than Giant. So for Microsoft, it IS beta.
Also, Microsoft added a few more "Real Time Protection"
agents, and integrated it into the OS. With that, it is
BETA.

Also, It wasn't so much the product that Microsoft
bought, but that they bought Spynet. Within 24 hours,
they should be able to update their software to take care
of new and hazardous hijackers, and spyware.

Marty;
You really answered your own question with this statement:
"Microsoft added..."
There were changes and Microsoft may not be confident in the product until
further testing is completed.

You also said "this program has been installed on 100 times more machines
than Giant"
I do not know about the numbers, you should post your source, but it is
likely very high.
Thus with more installations the user base is much larger allowing for more
issues to be discovered and resolved.

In any case, the owner is in the best position to know if it is a Beta
product.
Surely there would be cries of incompetence if Microsoft made the changes
and released the product without Beta.

Since it is a Beta, users should be willing to accept all circumstances as a
result of the Beta installation while assisting in making a better product.

.
I do NOT agree with your statement.
A public beta should be AN AWFUL LOT BETTER than the
present "alpha" product.
Sorry !

What statement?
I never said anything about a Beta.

The rest is just your opinion...and worth as much.

The point is this is not a final product and should be used at your own risk
with no expectations from Microsoft or anyone else.
If this is unacceptable, you should not install it or any other pre-release
product for that matter..

True it is not a final release and some problems should
be expected. However calling it a beta would imply to
most who have been paart of software testing that it is
at least near a final release with some minor bugs. This
program doesn't even come close to those expectations.
Shame on Microsoft and you for trying to justify this.

Shame on nobody except possibly yourself for your such broad statement.
Clearly you have no clue since you cannot see the differences..

This is at least as good as any of the early betas for IE or OE I have run.

I install the microsoft antispyware product to see how it
works in case I decide to use it inside the company's
network. The purpose of a BETA is to test it, if it works
great, if it does not then report your specific problem.
I have not seen any standard antispyware program that
works well on an already infected PC. As a user, if you
consider you know what you are doing, then further manual
procedure needs to be done. I will say that many many
people needs to get themself some training before using
their PCs. If the computer is use as a toy, then don't use
it for work.
