Why is XP shutting my system down ???

R

Rudeboy

I just upgraded to XP and I never had a problem like this in 98SE. If the
computer is not used for about 20 minutes it shuts down. If I'm surfing or
typing etc it doesn't do this. If MediaPlayer is running it doesn't do this
(obviously XP recognizes that an activity is going on and doesn't shut down)
But it doesn't recognize XNEWS when it's downloading as an activity and it
shuts down after 20 minutes if all I have running is XNEWS downloading.

In Power Options in the Control Panel I have
-turn monitor off after 2 hours;
-turn off hard disks Never and;
-System standby Never

Hibernation is not enabled.

So why is XP shutting my system down at all???

TIA

Check your event logs for clues. (Right click MyComputer\select
Manage\expand Event Viewer\click on System or Applications.

If you're not administrator, logon to the "administrator" account, not admin
rights but the actual user "administrator" and make the admin power options
the same as your local user account.

in some cases ive seen the user accounts use the administrator power
options.
