Why is this in my autoexec.bat file?

Hello and thanks for any help.

In Windows XP Pro SP2 my autoexec.bat file is...

************************

C:\mydocuments
dir
cd documents and settings
dir
cd /?
exit

************************
As far as I know autoexec.bat is optional in XP and I can't see a logical
reason for the makeup of this file and I'm curious.

Thanks again.

This could be a leftover from some previous OS from which
you may have upgraded. Get rid of these lines - they are useless.

good question, I do not have a autoexec.bat file but from reading yours it
really isn't doing anything important.

Any advice is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

I just check. Mine says

"PATH D:\NC;%PATH%"

That is positively ancient. (NC is "Norton Commander"...)
