why is there a delay in letters on screen as i type text in Word?

only in Word, as i type text, there is a delay on the screen seeing the
words. why? it doesn't happen in e mail, instant messaging etc. just in Word.

Hard to say. It could be a problem with the graphics card driver, with the
keyboard driver, with an Addin running in the background...

Basic trouble-shooting to try to pinpoint where it's coming from would be to
boot first Word, then Windows in Safe Mode, and see in which mode the problem
goes away.
