Why is there 8 mb left when I partition a harddisk in xp?

My harddisk is a wd 120 g which is to be installed with xp.

When I install windows, it gives me some options to partition the disk,
but no matter how many partitions I choose,
the last cannot use all the space left and 8 mb is left?

It doesn't say how to use all the space. I think
you would need to use a third party program
such as Partition Magic.

Do you have any idea what the % is of 8mb is on a 120gig

hard drive? Don't worry about it!

I don't know for sure - but you are probably using NTFS and this space
is used by the file system if I remember what I read once.

Mine does the same thing and it is on a drive basis. you can put as
many partitions as u want there will always be 8m left at the end.

PM won't give any diferent results.

You may be confusing the marketing size the HD manufacturer quotes,
and the actual size of the drive.
