why is my workbook opening so slow?

I use excel 2000 ... There is a specific woorkbook/spreadsheet that several
of us in the office use so we have it as a shared document so that we can
each make and save changes. We have noticed that since the first of the year
the first of the year when the document in question is on shared that it
takes forever to open. (15 to 20 minutes) but when it is not on shared it
opens inseconds. Has anyone else had any experience with this? If so we would
appreciate as many suggestions as possible. I realy don't know what to look
for and we havetried all the usual resources.
