why is my outlook 2007 is "not responding" and locking up?

I tried to email a large picture file from my windows vista "picture gallery.
Now outlook seems to have locked up(Not Responding) and I have to physically
turn the computer off. Also, Norton Security says its processing a threat.
Is this because of the large photo file
 
Could be. It might have gotten stuck in the outgoing virus scanner. I'd
recommend against integrating a virus scanner with Outlook as it doesn't
provide an additional layer of security anyway.

No need to turn off your computer when a program doesn't respond. Simply
bring up Task Manager and kill the application from there.
