why is my database so slow?

I have a database with about 30,000 records in it. I have created forms to
search for and display the results of the search. I have included an
advanced search where you can select any field and search inside that form
similar to filter by form. Some of my users dont have access and can not use
the autofilter. My results contain information from linked tables. The
queries that run on my C:\ run in about 4 seconds, but when I move the
program to a network drive it takes 4 minutes for the same results. Is there
anything I can do.
