Why is my cursor not shown at the proper vertical starting point .

My cursor suddenly began to show up at the very top of the page in normal and
print views instead down on the page as reflected with the top margin. The
print preview and actual printing place the text down where it belongs, but
it's disconcerting to not have wyswyg on the imput screen.

I also suddenly have some lines adjacent to the cursor that wern't there
before. I assume that may be part of the same problem.

The lines are most likely the "Click and type" icons. Disable this option on
the Edit tab of Tools | Options.
