Why is my cell text not appearing?

My text cell shows "####" and I suspect I've exceeded the 255 character
limit. Is there another cause? If so, is there a way to remedy it?
 
Text cells typically do not show the "####".
somew more info please as in what version of Excel are you running and what
would you expect it to show.
 
If it's text, try changing the format of that cell to General.

Long text (255 characters to 1024 characters) in cells formatted as Text will
show as ####'s.
 
Excel 2003 SP 1 as part of Office Professional
