I am creating a website for a furniture maker. He has ~1000 products to
display.

The site will be a total 10 pages. 7 of those 10 pages will pull product
data from the database, build the display pages and then upload the page as
built to the local browser.

A change to the data will immediately appear in the pages.

Doing the same things with static HTML pages would take (perhaps) many tens
of pages, each of which would have to be independently maintained.

That's why one would want a database for a site.

If you have to ask why you need one, you don't need one.

It's kind of like asking when you buy a set of carpentry tools, "why should
I have a set of awls?" The answer, of course, is, you will need a set of
awls if you need to do what they do. If you don't even know what an awl is,
or does, you certainly don't need one.

However, at some point in the future, you may be doing a job that requires
using an awl. At that point, you will no doubt have investigated what an
awl is, as you have a need for one, and you can add one to your tool box.
