Why is Firefox 1.5 so much faster and more stable than IE7? Has it to
do with anything on my system? Could it be due to some settings on my
Windows Firewall or AVG antivirus?
Of course, I am glad it is this way, but before I dump IE I would like
to know more.

I just now installed Firefox 2.0,and it's even faster than Firefox 1.5,
with a variety of themes to choose from. I have finally dumped IE7 for
good.

Hasta la Vista, baby!

I am running Firefox 1.5 and have trouble when I download files, Windows
Explorer does not find the file name in their folders. But the file is
really there. If I do a SEARCH on the filename it is found in the same
folder that looked empty, I can drag it from the SEARCH results window
to another folder and now Windows sees the name. If I download in IE,
the name appears as it should.

Anyone else have that problem or a solution?

Hi,

Not a fix, but using FF I download to the desktop and move it to it's final
destination from there.

Me too. But now I see there are TWO "desktops" -

The new one (after I upgraded W98 to XP) is..
C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Desktop

So I just have to reset my folder options to point to the one I am going
to use.

That solved my problem.

Firefox obviously is a very good 'browser' but unfortunately all sites are
not configured to be able to use it. In the UK, for example, the National
Health Service 'Choose and Book' site for hospital appointments presently
requires the use of IE so dumping IE is not an option for me, at least at
present.

You are right. MS Office too does not update with FF2, so looks like I
still have to maintain the IE7 for a while.
Hope there is no problem in opening 2 browsers at the same time?
