why I can change DMA on IDE?

After upgrade to SP2 on XP Professional my DVD ROM on secondary IDE channel
switch DMA OFF so all drive tests going only up to 2.6 speed. Instead of
ULTRA DMA Mode 4 as on all other devices I have have PIO mode and I can't
change it. Any suggestions?

You have to delete the IDE controller in order to reset the device. Best to
do that in safe mode then reboot into normal mode to allow the redetect.
