Why doesn't the scroll wheel on my mouse work right in Word 2007?

I can scroll up and down by using the scroll bar on the right of the 2007
document, but I can not scroll up and down using the center wheel of my
mouse. It worked just fine with 2003 and earlier versions and was a great
timesaver , but it doesn't work now. How come? Why? Can it be fixed to
work?
 
Check you have the latest mouse driver software installed.
