Why does Word shut down periodically..."has a problem" window?

I use Microsoft Word in conjunction with a voice recognition program (Dragon
8.1). Periodically, I get a window saying that "Microsoft office has a
problem and has to shut down." There does not appear to be any rhyme or
reason why this happens but it tends to occur in four or five times in a
working day. It then saves my files and defaults back to the Microsoft Word
page. Can anyone tell me why it is doing this and how to fix it?

Hi

If Word has been crashing a lot, then the first thing you need to do is to
clean up the little messes it will have left behind. For that, see
What to do when Word crashes
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm

If the problem persists, then we need to work out whether this happens to
all documents you're using, or just to some?

If you can narrow it down to specific documents, then there may be a problem
with the documents. So, for those documents, follow the advice at
How can I recover a corrupt document or template - and why did it become
corrupt?
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm

If that doesn't help, then read the following. In spite of the article's
name, it offers suggestions about general problems with Word as a whole.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info....but I'm 67 yrs old, and not terribly
computer-literate, so the steps in these various links are way above my head.
Sorry!

Then take your computer back and use a typewriter! There are plenty of
people your age and older who are using Word and can follow these articles;
if necessary, print them out for reference.
