Why does Word Freeze up when I switch from one document to another

Ever since getting Word '07 If I have one or more documents open and I go to
the other doc, Word gives my icon the 'busy' for 30-60 seconds. I've checked
my system and I have more than enough memory and my processor is a new
dual-core. Pluse the processor barely dings about 10% during this time. I
would really like to be able to switch back and forth like I could with word
'03.

I agree with you. It is really frustrating. If someone has an answer to
eliminate that 'busy' lapse, please share.

Thanks!

It should be instantaneous so something is interfering with the process.
Best guess is your anti-virus software. If you have Norton AV, turn off its
Office plug-in.

If that doesn't fix it, see

http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm and work through
the troubleshooting tips you will find on those pages.

I found that by removing the Adobe Acrobat Professional 7 tool bar add-in,
my switching problems went away (Adobe Acrobat 7's toolbar doesn't work
correctly with Word 2007 in any case, so there's no loss in removing it; if
you need to create a PDF using Acrobat instead of Word 2007's own PDF/XPS
capabilities, the Adobe PDFMaker printer driver still works fine with Office
2007). This is assuming that Acrobat is the problem... If not Acrobat, my
bet would be on some other add-in that's not fully compatible with Word
2007.
