Why is Word 2007 so slow switching between documents?

I have a fairly good laptop (183 Ghz processor, 2 GB ram) but I find in Word
2007 that when I switch between open documents there is always a 10 to 15 sec
delay before the hourglass goes away. This does not happen in MS Excel or any
other programmes. In some cases the switch fails and I am returned to the
previous document. This is very frustrating and is slowing down my work
considerably, as I spend a lot of time moving between several open documents,
copying and pasting etc. Any ideas what is going on here?

In my case, it was caused by an Adobe add-in. See if this helps:
