Why does the extension of my saved files not show.

You probably still have the defaults set in Windows that now hide that
information from users, since many new users found that confusing.

Open Windows Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options > View and scroll
down to locate the option that says to Hide Extensions for Known File
Types...uncheck it.

.... or open My Computer on your desktop and select Tools > Folder Options >
View ... etc.
