Why does the default font slide show up smaller than the master?

I have set my default font in the master to be 9pt. i have also made the
content layout box for text 9 pt. yet when i insert a new slide and it says
"click to add content" the text is 8pt.
 
Have you made the text placeholder boxes too small and it's automatically
defaulting to the smaller size. Maybe you need to enlarge them.

Also (being kinda nosey here), 9 pt text is awfully small for PowerPoint. Is
this going to be used as a print document?

Actually, the placeholder boxes are quite large. I tried changing the master
to 10 pt and it works fine. I think it has a glitch with 9. Maybe it only
like to use even sizes?

Anyway, yes, it is going to be used as a printed document!! you're right.
otherwise, 9 would be quite microscopic.
