why does outlook open an install window every time I start it

For the last few days, when I launch Outlook for the first time since boot up
it opens a window titled "Installing Components for Microsoft Office Outlook"
and in the body it says "Installing: Microsoft Office Outlook feature" with a
progress bar underneath.

Once this is complete the window closes and Outlook carries on as normal.

I have checked Advanced Options and there are two add-ins active in Add-in
Manager, AVG Exchange Extensions and Exchange Extensions property pages.
There are no COM add-ins.

Not quite sure what it is trying to install and what has caused this to
start happening. I'm just worried it might be malicious.

Can you determine if this dialog is from Microsoft Office or from one of
your addins that you have installed?
The issue would indicate an installation corruption. Running a repair on the
software (Office or the addin) will most likely solve it.
Disabling/uninstalling the addin is also an option.

Without any exact details it is hard to be more specific.
You could also take a look at the Event Viewer to see if there is anything
logged about this there. When the issue is with Office, it is very likely
that there is something logged there.

How would that correct it? The first step would be to determine the cause of
the issue otherwise you'd be just wiping out programs at random.

Also, doing a wipe out without knowing if the actual (un)installer is indeed
corrupted could cause more damage than good. Trying to do an
un-install/re-install via the Control Panel should always be tried first.
