Why does my Word document lose some critical formatting when print

I have a large document created in Word Compatibility mode. When I attempt
any type of printing (pdf, standard printer) systematically some inserted
references change format (font size and weight) and the end document doubles
in size. Recently also, the 4th page is inserted into the text at every 5th
page or so. I have tried to set pdf (Primo) as default printer but this hasnt
helped. Any ideas? Thanks

Are there any fields in the document (such as cross-references)? Are you
updating fields on print?
