Why does my Startup try to start IE

O

Oliver Kiemschies

The other day I uninstalled/reinstalled Quicktime (not
sure if this is what started it). After that I started
getting an error message when I log into any user account
(XP). I get two actually on failed attempts to run IE6.
The task manager shows two IE6 processes running (at
least until I acknowledge the failure to open). A quick
pick at MSConfig under Startup shows 2 instances of
attempts to run IE6. I have run my spyware detector (ad-
aware 6.0) out of fear that some spyware is trying to
open IE. It comes up clean. I can always disable IE6 from
MSConfig, but that always seems like a dirty kind of fix.
What the heck started trying to open IE6 on startup and
How can I get rid of it beside just disabling it?

Oliver,
Go to: http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic", copy and paste hijackthis.log into your new message.
