Why does my spellcheck not work?

I am using word2007 and my spellcheck has suddenly stopped working. I have
trawled through all of the answers given on this site to others who have had
the same problem (it seems I am not alone), but all of the things that have
been suggested do not work for me.

Even when I write complete gibberish, it doesn't identify it. I have
highlighted sections of the text, and also only highlighted the gibberish,
but to no avail.

Someone suggested to highlight all of the text and then unclick the box that
says "do not check spelling or grammar" - this box was not highlighted, and
even highlighting and then undoing it doesn't work.

I have been through all the options in the "word options" menu, but nothing
seems to work. The document is not highlighted as an exception. Indeed, the
spellcheck does not work on any of my documents anymore. Even those documents
where the spellcheck was working, and have not been modified since, it
doesn't work anymore.

It is really quite aggravating - any suggestions would be more than welcome.

I tried everything from your website, but to no avail. Spell check still
does not work - as I stated earlier, I have no modifications, and no
third-party spellchecks installed.
